Introduction

Dear visitor,

Maybe you've heard about the SETI@home project. Some 5+ million people joined this project by installing the special SETI@home screensaver. Now this project has a follow up called BOINC.
BOINC is short for 'Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing'. This infrastructure allows scientists to develop programs that can be used by computer owners throughout the world. It not only supports SETI@home, but already many more challenging projects.

SETI@home is a scientific experiment that harnesses the power of hundreds of thousands of Internet-connected computers in the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). You can participate by running a free program that downloads and analyzes radio telescope data. There's a small but captivating possibility that your computer will detect the faint murmur of a civilization beyond Earth.

Chemistry Related Projects

Spinhenge@home
When you participate in this project you actively support the research of nano-magnetic molecules. In the future these molecules will be used in the local tumor chemotherapy and to develop tiny memory-modules.

LHC@home
When you participate in this project you do simulations that help predict the stabilty for the Large Hadron Collider, a particle accelerator which is being built at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, and due to switch on in 2008.

QMC@home
When you participate in this project you help to further develop the Quantum Monte Carlo method for general use in Quantum Chemistry.
