The Netherlands Second BIOSAFE Symposium - Product oriented novel separation concepts for the fine chemical and biotechnology industry The still increasing input of Life Science is well accepted in industry and the catalytic role of the advances in the field of biological sciences such as PCR technology, exploitation of genomics and high throughput screening is evident. However, for a further breakthrough of biotechnology and also to improve it’s acceptance in society, the development of clean, compact and efficient bioprocesses is necessary. Biopharmaceutical products such as biomolecules (hormonal peptides, proteins), and bioparticles (vaccines, virus vectors) have to satisfy extreme purity demands. The purification of molecules with a near-identical chemical composition such as multimers from monomeric products, usually requires a costly large multistep purification and substantial use of auxiliary materials. In this symposium novel separation concepts are introduced that are compact and efficient. The implications upon process design and process modeling are discussed. The lecturers originate from universities within the Netherlands and abroad.
