Optical and Thermodynamic Properties of Surfaces
    Focus and Scope
The formal treatment by J.W. Gibbs of the thermodynamics of interfaces in terms of excess quantities has ingeniously been extended by Dick Bedeaux into a tool to describe optical, hydrodynamic, and thermodynamic properties of, in particular curved, interfaces. This has become an active field of research by which many physical and chemical phenomena can be treated analytically that were otherwise (too) hard to analyze. This workshop mainly focusses on applications of this method to various problems in the field of optics, hydrodynamics, statistical thermodynamics and irreversible thermodynamics at or near surfaces.
